Biography

Chicago based writer. Reporter, best known for the acclaimed four-part serial series, "Panhandling For Change", where DeGeorge lived alongside a homeless veteran for four months in Rockford, IL. Rockford was voted the 3rd worst city in America according to Forbes, in 2015. The same year as "P4C" was released. From there DeGeorge was sent on assignment to Flint after the Water Crisis broke, where he stayed and reported for 90 days, writing another five-part serial series for a magazine, along with several articles covering the 2016 Primaries, but left reporting for a speechwriting opportunity in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights. DeGeorge was in an accident in 2018, shattering his spine, fusing his L2-L9 vertebrae. Now paraplegic with no movement below the waste and told he would never walk again. But thanks to his family and friends and a great medical team at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, along with his longtime trainer, his best friend and mentor, Jerome Johnson, DeGeorge dedicated his life for four-plus years, working to defy the odds to not only walk, but to get back to his gumshoe-style reporting. DeGeorge became the first American Spinal Cord Injury to walk while competing in the US Disabled Golf Open.
