Biography

I'm a journalist and digital media specialist. I've worked for more than 24 years as a writer, editor, subeditor, and senior manager at some of the best media houses in South Africa, namely Mail & Guardian, IOL, Eyewitness News (Primedia), and The Star to name a few. I've covered global and local news and sports events, like World Cups and the World Economic Forum (WEF), and I've sat in drug houses and spoken with dealers and addicts, to tell their stories. I've had the pleasure of interviewing some of my heroes, and also come face to face with those who have done more harm than good. As an editor and sub-editor, I've managed the entire chain of production in print and online publishing, from writing to design and proofreading. Later, as a content strategist in the digital space, I've been fortunate enough to help grow some of the biggest websites in the country, namely iol.co.za, mg.co.za and thesouthafrican.com You can find me at the intersection of technology and content, and where storytelling in all forms can build audiences, grow revenue - and change lives. Previous positions held: Sports Editor and Deputy News Editor at EWN (Eyewitness News) Managing Editor of iol.co.za Managing Editor of African Independent (www.africanindy.com) Online News Editor of Mail & Guardian (www.mg.co.za) Ranked 2nd place in Africa for Features at AIPS Sports Media Awards - 2023 Regional winner (Sport) in Vodacom Journalist of the Year - 2022 Sikuvile Journalism Awards finalist (2014, Best Columnist and Best Multimedia Story) Editor of the Year finalist (2015, Bookmark Awards) Winner of 2005 Print and Internet Newcomer of the Year award for Sports Journalism
