By Alasdair Lindsay| DirtFish@ Hyundai’s long-term rally future remains unclear. Clarity on its World Rally Championship presence beyond the end of this season is yet to arrive. But here’s what we do know about Hyundai: it’s headed for the World Endurance Championship next year with a two-car Hypercar effort under its Genesis premium brand. Cyril Abiteboul was the driving force behind that move.
By Alasdair Lindsay| DirtFish@ World Rallycross has faced some strong headwinds in recent years. IMG ditched the series eight years into a 20-year promoter contract, with the same Red Bull–KW25 consortium currently in charge of the World Rally Championship stepping in to take over in 2021. That entity, Rallycross Promoter, then elected to walk away from promoting the series at the end of last year. The FIA has now stepped in to take direct control over the championship’s promotion.
By Alasdair Lindsay| DirtFish@ Gus Greensmith did the job he set out to on Safari Rally Kenya – win aboard his RaceSeven-prepared Škoda Fabia RS Rally2. The result is the one he wanted. But how he got there worried him somewhat. He’d fought against a trio of Toyota GR Yaris Rally2s – Oliver Solberg, then Kajetan Kajetanowicz and finally Jan Solans – and at various times, fallen behind all of them. The ongoing trend over the last year, even, was a concern. Škoda was no longer the king of Rally2.
