By Alec Dougherty Verified| The Cavalier Daily Verified I can remember the day I fell in love with the Yankees. I was home sick at my grandparents’ house in third grade, flipping channels when a rerun of the prior night’s game came on the screen. It helped me pass the time when I was getting over my sickness, giving me a little brightness during those couple days. I carried that bright feeling with me as I watched the rest of the 2006 season obsessively.
By Alec Dougherty Verified| The Cavalier Daily Verified On a day in which two of its best players declared their intentions to play professionally, the Virginia basketball program wasted no time reloading, securing a commitment from forward Justin McKoy. The Cavalier Daily
The Cavalier Daily is the independent student newspaper for the University of Virginia (UVA) community. Founded in 1890, it is Virginia's oldest collegiate daily and operates as a non-profit, student-run organization. With over 500 student volunteers, it maintains full financial and editorial independence. The paper transitioned to its current name and daily format by 1996, and now publishes weekly print editions on Thursdays, alongside daily online content. The Cavalier Daily distributes 7,500–8,000 print copies across more than 85 locations on campus and in Charlottesville. Its digital presence reaches over 50,000 people weekly through social media and garners 45,000+ page views. The newspaper also offers an e-newsletter and provides access to over 7,500 digitized pages of historical issues. The organization is managed by a student Managing Board, and its content reflects the views of its contributors, independent of UVA's influence.
