Biography

I started freelance writing during my time as a high school English teacher. My main areas of expertise were arts end entertainment. I covered big events like the Sundance Film Festival and San Diego Comic Con while writing about local music and film. Over time I gravitated toward the food and dining beat which led me to my current position as the dining columnist for Salt Lake City Weekly. I am also a regular contributor to Static Media's Chowhound where I write about food and culture. I love to tackle assignments that require a bit of research and I enjoy digging deeper into subjects to find the story behind them.

  • Lunching Guide 2025

By Alex Springer Verified, Amanda Rock, Emilee Atkinson, Lily Springer| Salt Lake City Weekly Verified Lunch is one of those meals that often gets lost in the shuffle of a busy day—which is too bad. In my book, lunch is like that supportive loved one waiting on the sidelines with a bit of refreshment while you're in the middle of running a marathon. It's a reprieve from the grind, an excuse to be social with people you wouldn't normally hang out with and, perhaps most of all, it's a moment of self-care amid all of life's daily demands.

  • Restaurant Review: Tacos 1905 Bring a Taste of Tijuana to South Jordan

By Alex Springer Verified| Salt Lake City Weekly Verified I don't want to speak too soon, but I'm pretty sure winter has finally bid our state adieu for the season. That said, it's time to shift our culinary palates into spring and summer mode—and that means tacos. As it's near my own home base, I've been paying close attention to South Jordan's up-and-coming Latin restaurants. SoJo has welcomed some great places in the past few years, and this positive trend includes a new spot called Tacos 1905.
