Alexa St. John is a reporter at Automotive News covering automotive suppliers, tech and mobility. Her coverage on trends in the future of mobility - including autonomous, connected, electric and shared vehicles - involves reporting for Shift, the publication’s quarterly mobility insert, contributing to the weekly mobility newsletter and occasionally working on Shift podcast. She also closely watches trends hitting the top global automotive suppliers, including R&D spending, M&A activity, supply chain visibility and more. Some of her recent work can be found here. Alexa interned at Automotive News in 2018, where she led a 10-year look-back project on the 2008 recession, which won a 2019 Neal award for best series. Alexa spent the summer of 2019 interning at the Wall Street Journal, where she covered metro New York transit and breaking news. She has also interned at Local 4/WDIV in Detroit, Mich., where she gained skills in broadcast journalism and producing. Alexa is interested in covering the automotive, health or tech industries or university student culture, and is hoping to expand her skills in data-driven journalism. Alexa graduated from the University of Michigan in May 2019 with degrees in Communication Studies and the Program in the Environment. At Michigan, Alexa was Editor-in-Chief of The Michigan Daily, the 130-year-old, independent student publication on campus.
