Biography

Alexander Richey is an enterprising reporter, radio producer and sound designer originally from The Shoals area in North Alabama. His work is largely inspired by the South and the evolving relationship with his home. He’s worked on a range of topics from civil rights, rural communities, immigration, and subcultures for Reckon, BBC Sounds, Radiolab, Alabama Public Radio, Huffington Post, and others. In 2021, his work on the investigative podcast series “Unjustifiable” from Reckon Radio was awarded the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Podcast by a small digital news organization. He is also the recipient of the 2018 Society of Professional Journalist’s Mark of Excellence Award in Podcasting for the story, “Friends and the Promised Land.” Educated at The University of Alabama, 2018 class of THREAD at Yale, and 12 years in the Boy Scouts, Alexander continues to seek the magical realism in all our great big stories.
