Biography
Amitangshu Acharya is an Indian writer, researcher, and academic narrating stories of postcolonial waterscapes in South Asia. He locates his stories at the intersection of science and society, exploring the ruptured relationship between people and their environment in the Anthropocene and documenting sites and struggles where plural knowledge systems and practices are reclaiming hope for a sustainable future. He writes longform articles, vignettes of everyday urban life, and academic essays in The Economist, The Independent, The Hindu, Khaleej Times, Indian Express, Hindustan Times and The Mint. Amitangshu has received scholarships and fellowships from Sir Ratan Tata Trust, India; Leverhulme Trust, UK; International Journal of Urban and Regional Research Foundation, UK and the Konrad Lorenz Institute, Austria. He obtained a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Edinburgh, UK and is converting his thesis – A political ecology of small things – into a book. He is currently researching and teaching at the IHE-Delft Institute of Water Education in the Netherlands where he is developing pedagogies to decolonise water management in the Global South.
