She swam a few times a week at a local authority pool in Hackney and when I was about three, she took me with her. We splashed about in the shallow end, her holding me up and getting me to swim without armbands. The soft sweetness of the shiny bun on the burger we ate afterwards is still one of the best things I've ever eaten. That is one of hundreds of memories I have of her from when I was little.
