Last week, prosecutors and police raided Kronospan’s facilities in Romania, alleging that the firm falsified monitoring data for emissions from formaldehyde, a carcinogenic compound used in wood products.

Romania's forests are threatened by illegal logging and poor forest management practices. According to the country’s Ministry of the Environment, Waters, and Forests, the amount of wood logged in Romanian forests is double the legal limit.
