• Milwaukee County Zoo welcomes Norwegian Fjord Horse, just like from 'Frozen'

  By Andy Cieciwa| WISN-TV (Milwaukee, WI) Verified The Milwaukee County Zoo's Family Farm has a new resident. A male Norwegian Fjord Horse named Nelson arrived last month. He is the first Fjord species to join the Zoo’s Northwestern Mutual Family Farm. Nelson will turn 15 years old this month. The Norwegian Fjord Horse is one of the oldest breeds of horses, believed to be domesticated over 4,000 years ago. Fjords were also the breed used by the Vikings.

• 18 handguns stopped at Wisconsin airport checkpoints in first six months of 2023

  By Andy Cieciwa| WISN-TV (Milwaukee, WI) Verified Transportation Security Administration officers stopped 18 handguns at Wisconsin airport security checkpoints from Jan. 1 through June 30, 2023. Of those, 10 were at Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport. Last year 12 firearms were stopped in the same time frame in Wisconsin. “As summer travel ramps up, we continue to see far too many passengers bringing firearms to the checkpoint,” Wisconsin TSA Federal Security Director Mark Lendvay said.
