By Andy Thorley| Maximum Volume Music@ Back on a very wet and cold January evening, MV made its usual biannual trek to watch Black Stone Cherry. Personally, I love BSC for all kinds of reasons—mainly because they write wonderful songs and they’re absolutely ace live. That night, they rounded up their touring partners for a run through The Cult’s “American Horse”—and a studio take is included here. It opens in a way that feels like this song was made for them.
By Andy Thorley| Maximum Volume Music@ Dream Evil are – and I’m not exactly going out on a limb here – one of the most traditional-sounding heavy metal bands around. The type of metal band that people who don’t like metal think all metal sounds like. Bombast, headbanging, and near-thrash sounds abound on the title cut here. And here’s the thing: whether you’ve heard music like this a million times before or not is immaterial – Dream Evil are wonderful at it.
