Anna Doble is a writer, broadcaster and digital journalist. A passionate music fan, Anna spent the year in lockdown listening to every single vinyl LP she’s ever bought, in chronological order. She created a blog to chart her listening experience and found pathways to long forgotten memories: from hazy recollections of her dad’s booming speakers to the swamplands of late-90s Glastonbury. A daily ritual became a 36,000-word journey through music, mapping daily life in the pandemic and reconnecting, remotely, with family and old friends. She developed this into a long read for the BBC News website and subsequently received thousands of messages from fellow music fans all around the world. Anna is currently digital editor at BBC World Service, where she leads on podcast, video and social media strategy. She is developing the BBC’s presence in digital audio markets around the world and has pioneered digital communities around podcasts, including hit shows Death in Ice Valley, 13 Minutes to the Moon and North Korean hacking thriller, The Lazarus Heist. She is the “digital doctor” on listener feedback show, Over to You. Anna previously ran the digital news team at Radio 1, where she created a social video strategy for youth audiences. Before that she was head of online at Channel 4 News. She won a series of innovation awards after helping to create a fake woman – the Data Baby – to surprise festival-goers at Latitude with their own personal data. And she led the No Go Britain project which, through social media crowd-sourcing, revealed serious failings in public transport for people with disabilities in the run-up to the Paralympics. Anna began her career as a news reader and reporter in commercial radio in her home county of Yorkshire before moving to London to join Independent Radio News. She read news bulletins for Classic FM and Magic Radio and reported on huge news events from the attacks on 7/7 to numerous general elections, Brit Awards, the Mercury Prize, Champions League finals and Wimbledon. Anna has led three different digital teams to the Outstanding Team of the Year award at The Drum Online Media Awards: BBC World Service, Radio 1 Newsbeat and Channel 4 News. She has also been named Online Editor of the Year by The Drum and scooped an RTS Award for Digital Innovation. Most recently the BBC World Service team won a Rose D’Or in the audio entertainment category for 13 Minutes to the Moon. Anna has also been listed by journalism.co.uk as one of the UK’s top 50 female digital innovators.
