Deputies had been dispatched to a disturbance at 10889 Smokey Mountain Trail in the Village of Blue Mounds when they found Heather Schoonover, 54, suffering life threatening injuries, according to a statement from sheriff's office spokesperson Elise Schaffer. UW Med-Flight responded, but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

  • 4,000 pounds of recyclables ignite in Madison Tuesday

Madison firefighters responded to the area of East Pass & Grove Circle Tuesday morning, where the pile had become fully engulfed in flames, according to a statement from the City of Madison. In keeping with streets department training protocols, the recycling truck operator acted fast, driving to safety immediately after dumping the recyclables.
