  • Driscoll’s loses US strawberry patent case

    By Anna Powell| Hort News@ A long-running patent infringement case brought by Watsonville-based Driscoll’s against California Berry Cultivars LLC has ended after a court in California found that Driscoll’s failed to provide enough evidence to continue their case. Driscoll’s, who have not commented on the ruling, filed the lawsuit in 2019 alleging that California Berry Cultivars improperly used the company’s proprietary strawberry varieties in its breeding program.

  • Jones Food Company in administration

    By Anna Powell| Hort News@ Jones Food Company (JFC), one of the UK’s longest-running and largest vertical farm operators, has called in administrators. Administrators Damian Webb and Stephanie Sutton at RSM UK were appointed on 7 April after JFC, which has sites at Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire and Lydney in Gloucestershire, closed the doors. 61 staff have been made redundant, while a core of 11 have been retained to support administrators and maintain the sites.
