This week, she got the Congressional Gold Medal in recognition for her work. Along with more than two dozen other “Rosie the Riveters,” a group comprised of female defense workers during World War II, Lafreniere received the nation’s highest civilian honor in Washington, D.C., at a ceremony Wednesday that celebrated the jobs they performed.
