Carter, already serving as an associate judge in the circuit, is seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat expected to be open in 2026 because Judge Linnea Thompson has announced that she won’t seek retention. Thompson made the announcement earlier this month. The Illinois Supreme Court appointed Thompson to fill a vacancy in 2013.

  • Officials release cause of death of 19-year-old found in Rock Island motel

    By Anthony Watt Verified| Quad-City Times Verified Autopsy results indicate a woman who was found dead Saturday at the American Motor Inn in Rock Island died from head injuries. Rock Island police officers responded at 11:11 a.m. Saturday to the motel, 4300 11th St., to conduct a welfare check. They found 19-year-old Alexis J. Roelandt dead inside the room. Investigators consider her death a homicide. Coroner Brian Gustafson said Wednesday afternoon that preliminary autopsy results indicate Roelandt died from traumatic head injuries.
