Anusha Subramanian is an award-winning journalist, a British Chevening Scholar, a TEDx Gateway Speaker and a Mountaineer. She has been a versatile journalist, covering general news business & economics advertising & business of Bollywood. She is a two-time recipient of Press Club’s Red Ink National Award for excellence in journalism in 2012 and in 2017 for her investigative stories, After having worked as a mainstream journalist for 25 years across publications such as Mid-Day, Business Standard, Hindustan Times and the Business Today, she finally quit full-time journalism in to pursue Independent Journalism and Content writing across subjects. She is currently a content consultant with a preventive healthcare company, where she develops content on preventive healthcare for their blog site, CEO-authored articles for thought leadership, and user stories. Here she is also instrumental in bringing out an annual Health report that talks of the overall health status of India’s population based on the company’s health app data. She develops content for the company around raising awareness about the significance of wellness and proactive health measures. health report With a distinct lens, as an independent journalist, Anusha also pens thought-provoking narratives for The Print and Sunday Mid-Day that delve into the intricacies of inclusion and diversity, fostering dialogue and understanding across various spectrums of society. As an independent journalist she also worked as a researcher on a year-long TV show project produced by BBC Media India called ‘Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi’ hosted by Mr Amitabh Bachchan. As a senior researcher on the project, she had almost over 50 stories on unsung heroes of India on that show. She has also worked on a pilot for a ‘Temple Food Show’ as a lead researcher. Along with content writing, and research she also pursued her interests in mountaineering and is a trained and certified Mountain guide. She is the founding partner at Bohemian Adventures LLP along with two other women mountaineers. With this venture, she has combined her writing skills with her adventure training to be able to effect greater change in society by getting more people introduced to the outdoors and adventure. With her direction, the company has embraced inclusion as part of its SOPs and philosophy. They regularly conduct treks and other adventure activities for Persons with Disabilities, senior citizens and other groups of people who have traditionally been excluded from outdoor activities. Anusha’s journey down this road started in June 2013, when she volunteered for relief operations in the aftermath of the Uttarakhand floods. For over a month, she worked with Bachendri Pal and her team from Tata Adventure Foundation, providing relief materials to remote villages that could only be reached by trekking. Following this, she launched Summiting4Hope (S4H) to support charitable causes through adventure sports. S4H collaborated with Goonj in 2014 to aid over 2000 families in flood-affected Srinagar, and again in 2015, raising funds for earthquake relief in Nepal where Anusha worked for three months. Striving to build awareness around the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the outdoors, in 2017, she participated in India’s first tandem cycling expedition from Manali to Khardungla and raised funds through S4H for an organisation that promotes adventure sports among persons with disabilities and able-bodied individuals. In September 2018, Anusha as the lead guide, successfully led India’s first inclusive climbing expedition to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro. The team consisted of 3 blind climbers and 10 sighted climbers. She has been featured in the British Council's Women Inspire Series (https://twitter.com/UKinIndia/status/1021746100506488833). She has also been featured in Humans of Bombay. Furthering her awareness campaign for outdoor inclusion and keeping the outdoors as her background, Anusha is a speaker and registered with The Outside Speakers’ Bureau. She speaks on Inclusion, Building Resilience, and Motivation. In September 2020, Anusha spoke at the TEDx Gateway Versova chapter on ‘Embracing Inclusion in the Outdoors’ under the theme ‘Empowerment, and in June 2021, she addressed a group of students at the TEDxYouth@Ascend International School. More recently, in 2024, Anusha’s company Bohemian Adventures tied up with Tinkesh Ability Foundation- a Goa-based NGO, that supports persons with disabilities through mobility aids, fitness programs, and awareness campaigns. Together, they organised an Inclusive trek to Everest Base Camp in Sep 2024 where Anusha guided a blind woman mountaineer Chhonzin Angmo and a knee amputee Vinod Rawat to Everest Base Camp. Together, they completed the 132 Km long journey (Lukla- EBC-Lukla) in 16 days. On December 3rd, International Disability Day, Chhonzin Angmo was honoured with the National Award by the President of India for their inspiring contributions to adventure sports. Anusha Subramanian's journey is a testament to her role as a change-maker. Her words are a catalyst for social transformation, advocating for a world that embraces diversity, prioritizes health, and normalizes disability.
