  • WHSmith high street profit plunges ahead of sale

The retailer’s division delivered a profit of £15m in the six months to 28 February, down from £22m the same time last year. Sales dropped a further 7% to £239m. WHSmith announced it had sold its 482 stores High Street business to private equity firm Modella at the end of last month in a £76m deal to focus solely on its fast-growing travel retail division.

  • ProCook sales soar after ‘strong final quarter’

The kitchenware brand’s retail revenue rose 14.7% to £9.6m in the 12 weeks to 30 March, which it attributed to new store openings and the launch of coffee machines during the period. Online sales rocketed 23.4% in the fourth quarter, up 19.9% on a like-for-like basis, driven in part by the retailer’s relaunched Amazon UK marketplace.

  • Halfords CEO exits after seven years

Stapleton, who has been spearheading a transformation of the motoring specialist, is being succeeded by former Very Group CEO Henry Birch. It comes as Halfords reported its pre-tax profits for the year will sit at the upper end of its £32m to £37m guidance following a “strong finish to FY25”.
