Prior to becoming a journalist, Castañares served for 13 years as staff for the California State Legislature, and also provided political and marketing consulting to clients throughout California. Castañares has served on boards of non-profit organizations including Borderview YMCA, the New Americans Museum, AYSO Region 116, and the Tariq Khamisa Foundation. Castañares is an FAA-licensed airplane pilot and enjoys sharing his passion for aviation with family and friends.
