Riding out the half-a-century storm on her own, Ms Hartwig bunkered down under a mattress when loud sounds came from the roof. “I’ve lost it all,” she said.

Temperatures soared into the mid 30s on Sunday, reaching as high as 35 degrees in Coomera as a massive heatwave continued across most of the state. The warm, humid weather stuck around for most of Sunday with storms beginning to move through the Coast at around 7pm. Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Angus Hines said more storms could be on the way.
