Biography

Hey there, this is Austin De Dios, currently with The Oregonian/OregonLive. I cover public safety and diversity, equity and inclusion in the Portland area. Off the clock, I'm also working towards my graduate degree in communications with a focus in journalism innovation at the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, with an expected graduation of December 2023. I'm passionate about local journalism, and strive to be a good role model for young journalists coming into the field. I was the Editor-in-Chief of University of Portland's student newspaper, The Beacon, where I found my interest in journalism. I graduated from UP with a bachelor's in economics in 2022, and went straight into my new role at The Oregonian. It's been a difficult road, but a worthwhile journey. The future of journalism needs good leaders to shape it, and I hope to be a part of that work.
