Seasoned business writer, book reviewer, ghostwriter. Adolf Hitler did his best to make sure I would never exist. This fact has had an impact on nearly everything I write. My first significant writing achievement was a novel called Summer Long-a-coming (Harper & Row, 1987). It is a story about the long reach of the Holocaust into the lives of two war-time survivors and their three children on a southern New Jersey chicken farm. My second was The First Year of Nursing (Walker and Company, 1996), a non-fiction set of first-person narratives about rookie nurses. Before and after these books, I reviewed fiction and non-fiction titles for major newspapers, including The New York Times, Newsday, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Plain Dealer, The Chicago Tribune, The LA Times and -- my favorite -- HeadButler.com, among others. I have also written many feature stories for The Forward (and Yiddish Forverts). Topics: Author profiles, Lublin (Poland) homage to "disappeared" Jews; sexual abuse in Orthodox Jewish communities; photojournalism; flight from Iran of a "Moslem Jew;" ketamine infusion treatment for abused son of Holocaust survivors; Indonesian compiler of Bahasa-Hebrew dictionary; etc. I have written business and feature stories for AARP Magazine; IBM, Montefiore Medical Center; Ami Magazine; B-Tank Magazine; Teachers College (Columbia University), and others. For an author interview audio podcast called Bookpod, I interviewed many writers, including T.C. Boyle, Philip Gourevitch, Joseph Berger, Alan Furst, Susan Jane Gilman, David Grann, William Grimes, Adam Hochschild, Philip Lopate, Julie Salamon, Terry Teachout, Doris Betts and many others. For an audio podcast for IEEE's Spectrum Magazine, I produced Techwise Conversations, a series about the intersection of technology and society. Among our interviewees: Jaron Lanier, Eric Brynjolfsson, Ajay Bhatt, Anthony Goldbloom, Peter Capelli, Daphne Koller and many others. I have ghostwritten books for various business and government personalities, including a bank CEO, healthcare app developer, executive administrator at a large healthcare system, executive recruiter and others. I am co-authoring a nonfiction book with an FBI agent about his efforts to bring down several organized crime families.
