  • Napa River fish monitored using rotary screw trap

By Barry Eberling Verified| Napa Valley Register Verified When Martin Perales and Paul Blank go fishing on the Napa River, the fish barely stand a chance. The two men don't use a fishing rod. They use a rotary screw trap — a rotating funnel, 8 feet across, that floats half-submerged between metal pontoons and traps fish. But their work isn't about sports fishing. Perales and Blank work for the Napa County Resource Conservation District, and they are counting fish for science. They are giving the Napa River a health checkup.
