Biography

Starting in the world of journalism at the age of fifteen with my music zine Headaches, I have years of experience in music journalism. In 2020 I began studying for a BA in journalism at the University of Leeds. I graduated in 2023 with a 2:1, plus BJTC accreditation. During my time at university, I was a regular contributor for the student newspaper, The Gryphon, and spent two years as the section editor for the music section of the paper. During this time, I also regularly contributed to local music website Noise Delays Recovery. After graduating, I started freelancing. Writing political and current affairs pieces for Private Eye as well as writing gig reviews for The Yorkshire post. In addition to this, I took up a full-time job writing business news articles for the West Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, before being hired as a staff writer at Far Out Magazine. At Far Out I have been writing high quality music articles full-time, and have proven myself to be able to deliver a high standard of work to a deadline with very quick turnarounds.

Gone were the overblown, overcomplicated riffs and self-important solos, replaced by short, sharp power chords and a snarling attitude.

  • Horst Krüger Septett: Soul-jazz versus the East German state

By Ben Forrest Verified| Far Out Magazine Verified Wed 16 April 2025 22:00, UK Barbed wire, brutalism, and banned music: the Eastern Bloc is not afforded a very glamorous image in the history books. The Cold War saw Europe divided into East and West, with the East remaining shrouded in mystery for much of the 20th century. Life behind the Iron Curtain was dominated by totalitarianism and strict regulations on things like art, literature, and music.
