Biography
Current: I'm now the Car Manager at Hutch Games - working on the Top Drives title managing the in-game cars including the authenticity and accuracy of all models, and the licensing of new models and brands for the game. Formerly, I spent three years as deputy web editor of Carbuyer. Here I became a specialist in car reviews, best lists as well as advice, news articles and SEO best practice. Along with being jointly responsible for the editorial output and standards of the Carbuyer team, I've also worked behind the scenes on the several videos for the brand’s YouTube channel. Since switching to automotive writing in 2015, I have freelanced for a variety of automotive websites including DriveTribe, Car Throttle, Vanarama, Read Cars as well as occasional automotive features in Auto Express and gaming features for Kotaku. I have owned various cars over the years including an Alfa Romeo 159 and a Subaru Outback 3.0, and my current garage houses an Abarth 595, a Porsche Cayenne S manual and a BMW 523i (E39).

By Ben Hodges| thesgmw.co.uk@ As summer fast approaches, it’s been another busy month for the Southern Group. Again, our members have been busy delivering a varied array of drives, news, and features, along with hundreds of social media posts detailing what they’ve been up to. In April, it was with great sadness that we announced the passing of Ray Potter, a much-loved and long-standing retired member of the group.
By Ben Hodges| Auto Express Verified Striking looksSlick infotainment systemUnder £262 per monthIf you want a posh estate car with plenty of style that’s a departure from the usual German rivals like the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series Touring, and the Mercedes C-Class estate, then the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is a worthy contender. This stylish-looking estate car comes with a long standard equipment list and punchy performance. Making it a real bargain for just under £262 a month on a two-year deal.
By Ben Hodges| Carbuyer Verified The BMW 5 Series is a large executive saloon that’s aimed squarely at the Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6, Jaguar XF and Lexus ES. It offers all the luxury and build quality you’d expect from a premium German manufacturer, with a distinctly sporty character that BMW prides itself on. It’s not just comfortable and fun to drive, though; the 5 Series is offered with a range of engines that strike a great balance between performance and economy.
