  • Lill’s Library: We Were Liars, a beach read that betrays its own genre

By Lillian Heckler, Zora Edelstein, Sasha Nol, Bianca Rodriguez-Mora| The New School Free Press Verified Join the (book) club — Lill’s Library is a biweekly series where former KidLit agent intern and avid reader Lillian Heckler tells you what young adult titles are taking up space on her bookshelf. This week, we’re reading We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. I love the beach. I love to read on the beach. I hate “beach reads.”Okay, sure, boo me if you want.

  • Review: Season 2 finale of Severance is its brightest, bloodiest, and most boisterous episode to date

By Zora Edelstein, Sasha Nol, Bianca Rodriguez-Mora| The New School Free Press Verified Warning: Spoilers ahead for Severance Seasons 1 and 2I love Severance. I’ve been a fan since the first season premiered on Feb. 18, 2022, and waited the grueling three years after Season 1’s harrowing finale. I have to admit, I was bracing myself for another nail-biting cliffhanger to close out Season 2 — while the show has been renewed for a third season, there’s no release date in sight. I was pleasantly surprised.

  • In Hybrid Souls, Andy Denzler puts our digital reality to canvas

By Zora Edelstein, Sasha Nol, Bianca Rodriguez-Mora, Pritika Sharma| The New School Free Press Verified “How will we cope?” asked Andy Denzler, sitting among his latest body of work on display at the Opera Gallery on Madison Ave and E 67th St. He’s referring to our collective need to come to grips with advancing technology and artificial intelligence. In Hybrid Souls, Denzler poses questions about the use of AI in art, human entanglement with the digital world, and our relationships with ourselves.

The New School Free Press

The only place to find The New School all in one place. The New School Free Press is The New School's university-wide, student-run publication. It is published with the support of The New School and the Literary Studies department of Eugene Lang College, and currently functions as a monthly publication with a daily presence on the web. The Free Press operates as a credit-based class — though we do accept contributions — and covers each of The New School's seven divisions, Greenwich Village, New York City, and the world. The Free Press was founded in 2007, having evolved the now-defunct Lang College publication Inprint. In 2012, the Free Press won two awards — the Newspaper Pacemaker and the Online Pacemaker -— from the Associated College Press, the largest and oldest national membership organization for college student media in the United States.
