By Billy Kobin Verified| Bangor Daily News Verified AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine House of Representatives passed Tuesday a proposal with bipartisan support to prevent people under the age of 18 from marrying. The bill from Rep. Laura Supica, D-Bangor, would no longer allow marriage licenses to be issued to 17-year-olds in Maine. Under a 2023 law that moved the minimum age up from 16, the state currently allows people who are 17 to marry with the written consent of their parents, guardians or those with legal custody.
