Biography
Originally from Saginaw, Mich., Bob Houlihan enlisted in the Navy in 1994 and spent ten years as a Navy photographer, serving on the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Essex. He was sent to Syracuse University, to attend the Military Photojournalism Program, where he graduated in 2000 and went on to serve as a photojournalist and photo editor of the Navy’s flagship publication, All Hands magazine In 2003, Houlihan left the Navy to become the Deputy Director of Photography at The Washington Times. After three years inside the beltway, Houlihan moved back home to Michigan to take the job as Photo Director at The Detroit News. Houlihan is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Airman magazine at Defense Media Activity in Ft. Meade, MD. Houlihan currently lives on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with his wife Shelly, their fourteen-year-old son Connor and an unruly pack of Labs and Beagles.
