By Brad Cooper| Sunflower State Journal@ State fiscal analysts increased their revenue forecasts by about $377 million for 2025 and 2026 although the state continues running a budget deficit that will leave its ending balance in the red by 2029. While the new revenue forecasts paint a hopeful picture for the state, there were warnings of future uncertainty with the state spending $930 million more than revenues in fiscal 2025, $555 more than revenues in 2026 and $831 million in 2027.

The Kansas Legislature this year passed a bill allowing law enforcement to better crack down on uninsured drivers traveling the state's highways. Instead of confirming insurance coverage when a vehicle is registered, during a traffic stop or after a crash, the state will be quickly notified when auto insurance coverage lapses.
By Brad Cooper| Sunflower State Journal@ Kansas is projected to see an estimated 17% increase in abortions during 2024 with the state recording among the highest number of abortions provided to out-of-state residents, according to new research from a reproductive rights think tank. The Guttmacher Institute released new estimates on Tuesday showing that there would be 22,720 abortions performed in Kansas during 2024, up from the the estimated 19,230 abortions conducted a year earlier.
