Biography
Author and journalist. Books: Into the Soul of the World: My Journey to Healing and Real Mosquitoes Don't Eat Meat. A former senior editor at Outside and a former contributing editor at National Geographic Adventure, George, and Outside, I have more than two decades’ experience writing, publishing, and editing at the highest levels. My book, Real Mosquitoes Don’t Eat Meat, was published by W.W. Norton’s Countryman Press. I’ve published longform nonfiction articles and essays in The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times Book Review, GQ, Wired, National Geographic, Yoga Journal, Outside, Travel + Leisure, Men’s Journal, and more. I began my career as an editor at Outside magazine where I edited and coached some of America’s finest writers. As a senior editor, I conceived, assigned, and edited “Into Thin Air,” the longform article by Jon Krakauer that was expanded into the book of the same title. I left the magazine in 1997 to work for multiple magazines as a freelance/contract writer. I traveled the world on assignment to report and write nonfiction articles about adventure, politics, the environment, culture, and sport. I served as contributing editor for Outside, National Geographic Adventure, and George magazine. Today, I’m passionate about writing about travel, adventure, spirituality, yoga, wellness, and personal growth. My articles have been anthologized in The Best American Travel Writing series, Outside 25: The Best of Outside Magazine’s First 25 Years, and Traveller’s Tales. I help thought leaders, positive-change-makers, wellness professionals, and everyday people like you write and publish nonfiction and memoir books. I bring to my book writing coaching my vast experience as an author and a seasoned professional editor.
