But just weeks before her 24th birthday, the young star was tragically killed outside of a hotel. Known simply as “Selena” to her fans, the 23-year-old was shot by Yolanda Saldívar — the president of her fan club and manager of her boutiques — after a confrontation over Saldívar’s embezzlement of approximately $30,000. Saldívar, who has now spend 30 years behind bars will remain in jail following a recent parole review.
