    By Brett Gallman| Letterboxd@ Alex Garland's latest is undeniably gripping due to impeccable craftsmanship: the acting, the blocking, the camerawork, the sharp editing, and the sound design (my god, the sound design!) result in some truly harrowing shit. While the script's laconic approach to this world provides little context to guide the audience, there's no doubt they've been transported to a lived-in alternate reality where the United States has fallen into autocratic dysfunction.

I've been especially hesitant because Jay and Silent Bob Reboot confirmed that I've parted ways with a once formative filmmaker--his movies were obviously just for him and his still-devoted acolytes, an approach I have a begrudging respect for. His style of humor just isn't for me anymore.
