(WSIL) --Officials say a lightning strike from recent storms was to blame for fire that destroyed a historic building in Perry County, Missouri. The Missouri State Fire Marshal confirms lightning struck the Saxon Lutheran Memorial and Heritage Center Sunday night. Saxon Lutheran Memorial posted to their Facebook page, saying the fire did not spread to other buildings. They also stated everyone involved was safe.

That money came from a $4 million grant program by the Illinois State Fire Marshal. The Small Equipment Grant Program helped 178 other fire departments and EMS providers across the state. This funding will be used to purchase "bunker gear," specialized protective clothing for firefighters, designed to protect against heat, flames, and hazards during emergencies.
