This year, all category winners are 2024 or 2025 models and are either electric (EV), plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) or hybrid vehicles. Furthermore, the researchers added new scoring criteria and brought back the minivan category, awarding the top spot to the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica PHEV Pinnacle.

Of those calls, the majority of vehicles required towing (roughly 13 million) or were experiencing battery issues (approximately 7 million). Combined, these two types of incidents accounted for roughly 74% of total calls and eclipsed flat tires and lockouts.

Despite this slight increase, 6 in 10 U.S. drivers still report being afraid to ride in a self-driving vehicle. For drivers, enhancing vehicle safety systems remains a priority over the development of self-driving, with interest among drivers decreasing from 18% in 2022 to 13% this year.
