The Statesman
The Statesman is the official student newspaper of Stony Brook University, established in 1957 as The Sucolian. It is the longest-running student publication at the university, providing essential news, information, and perspectives for the campus community. The Statesman covers a wide range of topics, including university administration, student life, faculty, and local issues. It features articles on arts and culture, opinion pieces on current events, and sports coverage of university teams. The newspaper also offers multimedia content such as videos and podcasts. While it historically published a print edition every Monday during the academic year until 2021, it continues to maintain a strong online presence. Owned by Statesman Association Inc., The Statesman is staffed by undergraduate students who take on various roles, including editorial board members and writers.
