Bruce Kushnick is the Managing Director of the IRREGULATORS and Executive Director of New Networks Institute. Kushnick has been a telecom analyst for over 38 years. If you ever used a touchtone phone, saw the phone number of the caller or listened to a recording over the last three decades, odds are Bruce Kushnick had something to do with it. In 1985, as Senior Telecom Analyst for IDC/Link, (a subsidiary of International Data Corp), Kushnick’s 1985 report (a best seller) predicted that the addition of new technologies and new networks would change the way America used communications; his 1986 report would help with the deployment of Caller ID. In 1992, Kushnick started New Networks Institute and helped to invent and deploy the first 3-digit phone service, “511” with Cox Newspapers. In 1995, NNI’s research was used to help create the first flat-rate long distance service, Sprint’s $.10 a minute plan with Candice Bergen. In 2002, Kushnick was one of the founders of Teletruth, a telecom advocacy group that was a member of the FCC’s Consumer Advisory Committee. His group also worked with SBA’s Office of Advocacy on telecom summit to protect small ISPs. In 2006, Kushnick and his second book “$200 Billion Broadband Scandal” was featured on Bill Moyers’, “The Net at Risk”, the first broadcast program about Net Neutrality and in 2012, Kushnick was featured in David Cay Johnston’s “The Fine Print”. In 2015, “The Book of Broken Promises: $400 Billion Broadband Scandal & Free the Net”, was published and it is the third in a trilogy spanning 20 years. He is currently a founding member of the IRREGULATORS a consortium of telecom experts, forensic auditors, and lawyers. In April 2019, the group filed an appeal for an investigation of the FCC’s accounting rules, which are used by the incumbent phone companies. IRREGULATORS v FCC exposes one of the largest accounting scandals in telecommunications history. Kushnick has a BA from Brandeis in music composition, (and attended Berklee College of Music, Boston University, and other colleges). In 1972, Kushnick had worked in the psychoacoustics labs at MIT, and returned to MIT in 1977 as a special graduate student at MIT, where he worked on projects in what is now the MIT AI and Media labs. At the same time, he attended Harvard University taking classes in psychology and education. Bruce has been playing the piano for 63 years, and had a single out on the CBS/Zoo York label in 1982. Over the last few decades he played concerts at Carnegie Recital Hall and gigs in the NY clubs, including The Bitter End. His piano albums, concerts and singles are now becoming available on social media, worldwide.
