I am a Pulitzer nominated, award-winning features writer and humor columnist, and an author of faith-based humor/adventure novels for middle grade readers. I began my career in newspapers in 1982 in Ashtabula, Ohio, after graduating from Kent State University with a journalism-news major and telecommunications minor. I have written and edited for newspapers in Decatur, Ill.; and Ravenna, Warren, and Youngstown, Ohio. I have served as a beat reporter for schools, police, courts, and county and township governments; copy editor; night metro editor and interim metro editor; and now am features editor at the Tribune Chronicle and The Vindicator in Warren / Youngstown.

It wasn’t much of a fort, really. But then, it wasn’t much of an apple tree, either. With the help of Gordy, the big kid who lived across the road, we lugged a door that had fallen off one of the outbuildings on our farm, and wedged it into finger-like limbs of the little apple tree. The door became a floor not quite three feet off the ground.
