Biography

Caleb Ijioma is the Executive Director of Roundcheck, a youth-led fact-checking organization in Nigeria that combats false information, promotes media literacy, and builds a network of young fact-checkers. He is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in The Nation newspaper, Tribune, The Cable, Ambitious Africa, Within Nigeria, the International Journalists’ Network (IJNET), and various blogs. Caleb has a strong passion for combating misinformation and disinformation, youth empowerment, capacity building, education, and human rights. In 2019, he received the Outstanding Executive of the Year award from the National Union of Campus Journalists, Nigeria (NUCJ), a Palec award certificate as the Most Influential Student Leader of the Year, and a Merit award from the Youth Empowerment and Support Initiative at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, in recognition of his leadership roles. He also won a Disability Reporting Award in 2022 from the Africa Foundation of Young Media Professionals (AFYMP). He is the convener of the African Student Entrepreneurs Summit (ASES), an annual event aimed at connecting African student entrepreneurs for learning and networking. Over 60 African students have trained under this platform with leaders including Vivian Onano (UNESCO, Kenya) and Lekan Otunfodunrin (ED-MEDIA CAREER, Nigeria). Caleb is an educator in fact-checking, having trained numerous campus journalists across various Nigerian tertiary institutions, including Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU, Ogun State), Lagos State University (LASU, Lagos State), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH, Oyo State), Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAPOLY, Ogun State), and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU, Osun State). Caleb has participated in several media conferences and workshops, including the Canal France International (CFI) Forum on Media and Development in Paris, France (2023), the West Africa Journalism Innovation Conference (WAJIC), organized by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), Abuja, Nigeria (2023), the Africa Fact Summit, Port Louis, Mauritius (2023), and the Africa Facts Summit, Accra, Ghana (2024). He was a 2023 fellow of the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) project focused on countering misinformation and promoting media literacy in Nigeria.
