Latinitas

Latinitas is a nonprofit organization founded in 2002 by University of Texas at Austin students. It aims to empower Latina girls and their communities through culturally relevant education, focusing on leadership, innovation, and community impact. The organization is dedicated to addressing the underrepresentation of Latinas in media and technology. Latinitas offers a variety of programs, including bilingual workshops and camps in media, technology, STEM, and leadership for middle and high school Latina youth. It operates after-school clubs in Title 1 schools to encourage girls to innovate through media. The organization also runs an online magazine, the first digital platform by and for Latina youth, which showcases their creative expression and storytelling. Additionally, Latinitas provides scholarships and mentorship to support participants in pursuing higher education and careers. The organization serves Latina youth aged 8–18 in underserved communities, particularly in Texas, and engages families and educators through outreach initiatives. It relies on donations, grants, and volunteer efforts to sustain its impactful programs.
