Biography

Caren Sisya Waraba is a Kenyan Female Journalist with over 5 years working experience in the media industry. She has reported from different locations in Kenya for News coverage, Collaborated with other team members to intensify the fight against Female genital mutilation in West Pokot County. She is currently working at North Rift Radio West Pokot County Kenya, as a News reporter, News presenter, show presenter, among others. Caren has produced a number of features ranging from Female Genital Mutilation to Gender Based Violence. Last year she spoke to five girls at Murpus Rescue School in West Pokot County, who had ran away from their homes to escape the cut. Three of them sat for the KCPE 2020 and they were worried that they would not accomplish their dream of joining high school. After my story was aired at North Rift radio, the three girls got a sponsorship to join one of the secondary schools in West Pokot County. As a show presenter, Caren has hosted different guests from different Non-governmental Organizations, e.g. World Vision, Centre for Indigenous Child Rights, Declares Inspirational Group Kenya among others to raise awareness about the dangers of FGM and stop the practice completely. Caren has collaborated with [Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung (DSW) Kenya] a Non-Governmental Organization that enlightens young adolescents on their rights, to visit different schools in North Pokot Sub County, West Pokot County on pre recorded programs ranging from FGM, HIV AIDS, LIFE SKILLS e.tc. Programs that are aired every Saturday at North Rift Radio on a kids program [Jukwaa la mototo]. Caren is also a feature producer [Wanawake na Jamii] aired every Monday at 6.50 pm at Kiswahili Service, SABC, Channel Africa Auckland Pack Johannesburg, South Africa, a feature that focuses on women, the hardships they go through in bringing up their families. As a journalist, she has been awarded several grants by the Media Council of Kenya to carry out health features i.e. Female Genital Mutilation, HIV AIDS among others. She has also worked with The Royal Media Services and 2Eyez TV Tanzania. Caren has also been trained by Voice for Women and Girls Rights- Kenya prepared by Journalists for human rights-Kenya between Sept 7th - Sept 8th 2021 on how to pitch different story ideas. She holds a Diploma in Mass communication from The Multimedia University of Kenya where she specialized in radio production.
