Biography

Carlos Manuel Rodríguez is the Mexico bureau chief at Bloomberg News. During his career Mr. Rodríguez has interviewed one-on-one significant figures such as Barack Obama, Enrique Peña Nieto, Felipe Calderón, Alvaro Uribe, Vicente Fox and Oscar Arias to name a few. He won two Emmy® awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2005 for his coverage of a police brutality case and the death of Pope John Paul II. He has been with Bloomberg since 2006, first as a business reporter for the Latin American channel of Bloomberg Television in New York, then three years later he transferred to Mexico to cover energy and commodity beats. He was promoted to bureau chief this year. His involvement in the markets started in 1998 as a runner at the Chicago Board of the Trade grain room. During the same period he produced and anchored radio shows in Chicago before starting writing for ¡Éxito!, the Spanish language weekly from the Chicago Tribune company. In 2000 Rodríguez became a part of Noticias Univision Chicago newscasts as an assignment editor. Working behind the scenes, he covered the 2000 Mexican presidential elections and the September 11th attacks. By then, he began producing and presenting special segments for the Univision local newscast. In 2002, Rodríguez was promoted to on-air reporter for the leading Spanish language newscast in the Midwest.
