U.S. District Judge John Kness said in a 20-minute hearing Wednesday that he would make a decision April 23 about whether to accept a Northwestern cardiac doctor’s opinion that Austin is medically unfit to stand trial. The trial had been set for later this month.

The man, whom the Cook County medical examiner’s office identified as Yonangel X. Martinez, was found in an apartment located at 1418 W. 49th Pl. around 11:20 a.m. Sunday with a stab wound to the chest. According to the medical examiner’s office, Martinez, 33, lived on the same block where he was killed. An autopsy conducted Monday ruled his death a homicide.
