Biography

Cassandra Roxburgh is a transfeminine freelance journalist. She has covered various topics, including LGBTQI+ rights, climate change, and politics, and written cultural criticism of popular TV shows and video games. She took a meandering path to pursue her dream of being a writer. During part of her university career (2015 – 2017), she was the editor of South African Music, a popular music blog in South Africa. However, she has to resign from the role to finish her LLB in 2018. In 2019, Cassandra started her LLM thesis investigating the possibility of an international regulatory framework to hold multinational companies accountable for their environmental harms in the Global South. While working on her thesis, she worked for a legal technology company (2019 – 2021) as a systems administrator designing decision trees for contract automation. Following this role, she worked at a corporate intelligence firm (2021), writing due diligence reports focused on Sub-Saharan Africa’s economic and political environment. In this role, she served as the Chairperson of their EDI committee, where she championed policies focused on creating a more favourable environment for transgender employees. Cassandra juggles multiple works-in-progress in her spare time, ranging from a non-fiction book examining the history of transgender representation in speculative fiction and several short stories grappling with a future after climate change and corporate environmental exploitation.
