Newsletter Editor, Chalkbeat

Biography

I'm newsletter editor at Civic News Company, leading strategy for Chalkbeat, Healthbeat, and Votebeat. Before taking on this role in June 2022, i was engagement editor at Chalkbeat beginning in January 2019. Prior to that, I worked as the engagement manager at The New Republic, based in New York; managing editor and a senior associate editor at The Atlantic; and deputy editor and engagement editor at Voice of San Diego, an investigative news nonprofit. Before landing in San Diego, I spent a summer reporting for the Business desk at the Los Angeles Times, covering green technology and electric cars. I earned my master's in May 2013 from the University of Southern California, where I was editor-in-chief of Neon Tommy, the nation's highest trafficked student-run news site. While there, I broke news of negligent investigative work by the LAPD, and managed to raise the ire of the department's police union. And before all that, I worked as an editorial assistant and interim news editor for my beloved hometown alt-weekly, NUVO. I covered the state's repeated attacks on Planned Parenthood, as well as grassroot efforts to make Indianapolis a leader in sustainability.
