By Cathy Reisenwitz, Ruxandra Teslo| Sex and the State@ It may not shock you to learn that, growing up, I loved reading, writing, listening to lectures, and arguing in class. Formal education and I had a love/hate relationship. As an Autist trapped in Alabama public schools, mild depression battled acute rage at the injustice and inefficiency of dumb adults wasting many hours of my time. College was private, infinitely more fun, and far less enraging. I still felt like it could have been faster.
By Cathy Reisenwitz, Darrell Owens| Sex and the State@ Like most white, middle-aged, female resist-libs (but I repeat myself), I have a love/hate relationship with Ross Douthat. But I love a listen, so when the NYT app (leaning hard into the stereotype) served me this, I couldn’t help myself:I gotta hand it to Cass here. It would be easy to miss what he’s actually saying. But as I’ve said before, since I don’t have NYT money or readers I’m going to summarize it for you in the most straightforward way I know how.
By Cathy Reisenwitz| Sex and the State@ Here’s the TL;DR: Klein and Thompson are right. Everyone in charge of anything in the US is, and has been, too much of a pussy. The right claims “masculinity is back, baby.” Yet none of these masculine men has actually butched anything up, let alone taken the kind of big risks that might actually fix something. This situation gives lie to the idea that the concept of gender is worth the trouble.
