I made the decision in the late 1990s to establish my career by doubling down on high school and college football in Texas. Most fall weekends from 1997 to the present, I track high school football on Friday night then scrambles to Big 12 college venues on Saturday, working every angle as a committed journalist and closet fan. As a staff sportswriter and freelance journalist, I have covered every level of Texas high school and college football from publications varying from community to metro newspapers, Web-only publications and Reuters News Service. In the spring of 2014, I was called on to cover the Final Four as a columnist for Reuters. I’m a proponent of new media, so I seek to tell stories in a sleek, e-reader-friendly format. Conversely, as an upholder of the legacy of sportswriters before me, I want to give an honest account of the personalities and place in the stories I tell.
