Biography

Now a special projects editor at New America, I am a writer and. teacher. I write about politics, policy, cities, history, psychology, and sports. I teach writing to a wide range of audiences from college (Yale, Columbia) to professionals to aspiring authors. I am now completing two books: • Anatomy of a Failure: Woodrow Wilson, Henry Cabot Lodge,m and the Strange Death of the League of Nations • Rules of Activism: Dissent, Organizing, and Direct Action in American Politics I am also about 75 percent done with a book on the role of screens in teaching and learning. I love assignments in which I can tell stories that speak to trends and research about how the world works. I am an intensive researcher and interviewer. Writing books has taught me how to go deep on any topic. My rule of thumb for knowing when the research is enough: when you no longer get fresh info and insights from interviewees and other materials.
