Biography

Chioma Iruke is a disinformation analyst, diversity journalist, and multi-talented writer, who currently works at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD). Her experience in the media cuts across journalism and the development sector with some of her works published and referenced in various newspapers, blogs, and websites. Presently, her role involves active research on various forms of information disorder, as well as training staff across West Africa on structures and tools useful in fact-checking. Her work has led to engagements with a variety of stakeholders, from digital conferences to the Election Commission in Liberia, allowing for advocacy on the need to incorporate fact-checking into mainstream media. Her fact-checking work has focused on gendered issues, especially the role that gender and identity dimensions play in political misinformation. Her journalist pieces have similarly covered marginalised groups and also allowed her to carry out interviews with frontline policymakers and advocates such as former Governor and presidential nominee Donald Duke and Charles ‘Charly Boy’ Oputa. She’s a graduate of Abia State University and a member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
