At its meeting on April 10, council voted against a resolution that would have declared March 24 as Agnes Macphail Day in Grey County. In 1921, Macphail — who was born in Proton Township (now Southgate) — was elected the first female MP in Canada’s history. West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles brought forward the resolution for council’s consideration.

At its meeting on April 10, county council approved a plan to replace a sand/salt dome at the county’s depot in Chatsworth after the building partially collapsed this winter due to a heavy snow load. The sand/salt dome was built in 1978 and was scheduled to be replaced in 2027. However, over the winter a portion of the structure collapsed due to the heavy snowfall.
